“I am proud to present Sikandar Siddique with our annual award. He is a role model for a diverse Denmark and a strong voice in the debate on inequality, climate and Danish democracy,” says Djaffar Shalchi, Danish businessman, civil society activist and multimillionaire who has founded the Human Act Prize together with his wife, Ané.

According to Djaffar Shalchi, Sikandar Siddique will receive the award and the $ 100,000 that comes with it as a private person – not as a party leader.

“The award is a recognition of his combined efforts in several of the areas covered by the UN’s World Goals,” emphasizes Djaffar Shalchi.

“An extra honor”
The Human Act Prize was awarded for the first time last year, where it went to the Swedish environmental activist, Greta Thunberg. And therefore an extra great honor is to have it this year, points out Sikandar Siddique.

“It is a great honor and really motivating to receive the Human Act Award – and even after one of my great role models, Greta Thunberg, received the award last year,” says Sikandar Siddique.

“I will do my best to live up to the honor and I will approach the task with a huge humility and a heartfelt thank you to Djaffar Shalchi and the entire Human Act,” the award recipient emphasizes.

The fight for a climate-responsible and diverse Denmark with equal opportunities for all has never been more urgent, emphasizes Sikandar Siddique.

“Economic inequality, racism and a wasteful over-consumption of the planet’s resources mean that we as a human being are in a moment of destiny, where we must together insist on new thinking and radical solutions in order to pass on a sustainable world to future generations. I will do my best to contribute to that,” states Sikandar Siddique, who is 34 years old, born and raised in Nørrebro in Copenhagen as the son of parents who originally came to Denmark from Pakistan in the 1970s. He was elected to the Folketing in 2019.

Purpose of award: To rise awareness of UN 17 SDGs
The purpose of the Human Act Award is to raise awareness of the UN’s 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), this year specifically of the SDG 10, whose overarching goal is to reduce inequalities within and between countries. The award is presented annually until 2030 within the framework of the SDG Decade of Action to a passionate changemaker who makes a difference to the world’s most pressing challenges. The award was instituted last year, where it went to the Swedish environmental activist Greta Thunberg.

With the $ 100,000 that also came with the award last year, Greta Thungberg and Human Act kicked off a fundraising campaign for vulnerable children affected by the consequences of the corona crisis. The campaign raised just over $ 1.3 million for the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF).
